Randomness

Been a while since I updated, so I figure I'll give it a try.

Lebanon doesn't want me, they sent me a nice little form letter saying they have reviewed my application, and they're not interested at this time. Kind of ruined last weekend. Screw em.

Still looking for teaching job. Still looking for what the hell I'm doing with my life. People tell me I'm still young enough to figure that out...my bills say otherwise. I've got options, certainly, but I'm still waiting for that one door to open. Maybe it won't ever, who the hell knows? Time will tell.

Let see, things that aren't depressing. SPRING has at long last, at long, finally, last, broken out over much of New England. Which is good, because we were begining to resemble Seattle.  I could never live there. I need sunshine. We lost some school because of flooding.

Mother-in-law's basement flooded in recent deluge, made a nice mess. There is so much accumulated junk down there that is now ruined, we think we're going to need a dumpster to get rid of it all. The sooner the better in my book. It's becoming a health hazard, probably.

Anyway...things are good. I'm singing again, in Faculty Chorus at School and in church choir. Faculty chorus bring so much more satisfaction, which isn't to say choir isn't fun, but everybody in choir except me is over 70, and their voices aren't what they used to be. The organist is the same age, and probably arthritic. Nothing has any zip, and I like zip in my music. They don't have much in terms of music selection either. I'm trying to figure out what I can do to help in that department. I may try to import some music, easy music, but something more peppy.

In terms of writing, I'm enjoying writing new stuff, but I'm desperatly trying to discipline myself to finish Redefining and Defining the Relationship. DTR may actually go straight to Epilogue from where it sits now, but there's still a couple chapters left to run in RE. I need somebody to stand over me with a whip and force me to write it. I need to finish this, even if I'm not feeling like it. Because I know I won't finish post July, mainly because anything JKR writes about the post-war era is better than anything I can come upwith and my stuff will pale in comparison.

But for now, I'm screaming obscenities at the television, watching the Sox lose to the Yanks (at present), and trying to put off work and other things I should be doing. At least it's vacation, and I've got the week off. Going to visit my sister this week, very much looking forward to that. (Manny just jacked one over the Monster, whohoo!) Philly should be fun. (JD Drew just went yard, as well, back to back for the Sox! Got it within 1 now. Finally getting to this whippersnapper nobody the Yanks got on the mound) HOLY SH** LOWELL JUST PUT IT ONTO LANDSDOWN STREET, GAME TIED! OMFG, THERE GOES TEK! BACK TO BACK TO BACK TO BACK...Hmmm...there's action in the Yankees bullpen, wonder why?...Pena just struck out to end the inning...but holy mother of God what an inning...I'm glad I got to see that live and not just on sportscenter.

And now for some random memage before I go back to the game.

Comment to this post and I will:
1. Tell you why I friended you. Assuming I can remember
2. Associate you with something. A fandom, a song, a color, a piece of fruit. SOMETHING.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Associate you with a character or pairing.
6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. (Or else I'll just ask a random question)
7. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
8. In return, you must spread this disease in your LJ.

Please Please Please do not ever mention Philly and JD Drew in the same sentence ever again. he is why I must abstain from liking the Sox this season. (and don't ever mention that man's name to a Philly sports fan) But have fun in the city and enjoy your break.
And I guess this is a comment

In Marching Band I was in the pit so I played everything from Mallet instruments to timpani, to O2 canister chimes. In concert band I did percussion for a year and a half till I switched to Baritone which I miss dearly.

::casts meme-avoiding spell::

Just commenting for the writing part, not for the meme ... I know you won't appreciate the advice/pressure, but I agree that you 'need to finish' your stories. It's a great little collection of stories you've written, and finishing them off properly will greatly add to their value. There's nothing more irritating than a good story that's left unfinished ... sad to say there's a few of them about.

And we all like happy endings :-)

Fingers crossed that a good teaching job will come your way sooner or later!

Oh, don't worry, I'm still forcing myself to work. Thanks for the encouragement, though!

I wasn't sure if you commented for the meme, or just for sweepage, but I'll do it anyway.

How did I get into anime? I suppose we're not talking about Pokemon and Digimon, so we'll just chalk that up to having a child. Here's the real anime story. You may remember one [livejournal.com profile] sunny_daylee from our roleplay stint. She was visiting, actually moving back to California from Colorado and stopped here along the way for a while. All her worldly possessions were packed in her car, including a videotape that had half an episode of this show called Cowboy Bebop on it. (If you really want to know the gory details, it was the 20th episode, one called Pierrot Le Fou, and it's the only one in the series that was digitally animated instead of manually drawn... but I digress). We watched it, and within about five minutes I was completely drawn into the story. At that point, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim had Bebop in the rotation so we watched it that night. It ended up being the very last episode, and then we got to start all over again from the beginning.

I'd seen other anime titles before, but I'm kind of a process-and-story snob with this stuff. I like anime that's beautifully drawn. I like anime that has great characters and kick-ass storylines. I like anime that doesn't pander. I like anime that doesn't condescend either with the art or the dialog or the storyline. Bebop was the first title I ever saw that was just top-notch in all the areas that were and are important to me.

I'm still an anime snob. There are only a few titles out of literally thousands now that I actually like and have the patience to watch all the way through. I'm a purist for the animated form of anime rather than the manga form, and this is probably way more than you want to know so I'll quit while I'm ahead and go... watch some anime. ;)

I'm sorry about Lebanon. *sigh* They don't know what they're missing! Have a good time visiting with your sister. Hopefully, while you're gone, I'll finally be able to sit down with your fic journal.

Please finish them. I can't stand over you with a whip, because that's just not me. I can say please. Yesterday and today have been pretty awful. The rest of the week is promising to get even worse. Please give me something to look forward to!

First of all, I want you to know that YOU are one of the primary reasons I'm beating myself up to finish this. There are a handful of people I'm doing this for, and YOU are one of them.

As a present, I'll sneak you some details. The next peice is a chapter of Redefining. It gives some wrap up for the Penny/Chris side of things, and then Penny and Chris go do some visiting (Penny goes to tell her parents she's met someone new, Chris goes to visit his Aunt) and then Chris is going to meet Penny's parents.

Now, SHHHH, don't tell.

As for the meme

1. Because you were one of my first fans! I can't beleive I had fans! Now I have good friends :-)
2. Dancing...huh, wonder why?
3. You are unflappable, and you keep your chin up, even in the worst of times. And, selfishly, you like my work, and I'm inclinde to like that.
;-) And more than that, you are just so incredible cool.
4. The coffeehouse. Back when I had time to hang out there
5. H/G
6. Are you shocked at the percentage of your life that HP has dominated? I mean, I was in high school when the first book came out, how old were you?
