So, I'm watching the Sox game with half an eye, and the camera focuses briefly on the stadium scoreboard Tex 30, Bal 3. The TV's on mute, Sara's on the phone, so I assume the Texans and the Ravens are playing preseason football.

It isn't until a few moments later when NESN does a game break, when I realized no, no, that's the Rangers and the Orioles. The Rangers put up a 30 spot on the the Os...first time since 1900 that 30 runs have been scored in a MLB game.

*blink blink blink*

And the really sad part for the Os? They don't have time to shake that off. It was Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Every so often, I go in to clean out various spam folders, and double check for things that might have gotten picked up by accident.

Has anyone else noticed that spammers are now taking subject lines from works of fiction? Twice within the past three days I've noticed spam subject lines that are direct quotes from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books. 

I meant to post this earlier, but got distracted.

We have one of those "Old Timer's Leagues" at the golf course where I work now. There are a dozen, maybe more guys, and they play in teams, and probably for money and beers. Anyway, they're kinda cool, all these old retired guys, (ages 60-80, approx.) just hitting the ball around for the hell of it. 

So I'm out there raking bunkers on number 9, which is a par three, and it's the hole they do their "closest to the pin" contest. And the first guy on the tee winds up, hits it. It lands about ten feet short of the pin and rolls on in. It was pretty cool. All his budies were like "gee, if we'd known you were going to do that, we wouldn't have bothered walking down here!" (the 9th hole is considerably lower in elevation than most of the rest of the course, and it's quite a hike for these old dudes. 

Anyway, it was pretty cool, cuz I've never seen an ace in person before, just on TV.

I spent my Fourth of July morning participating in a parade, on behalf of a certain presidential candidate. That in itself was a celebration of the freedoms of America.

But the true joy was that I got to drive the golf cart in said parade, and my passanger was one of Grafton county's few remaining Pearl Harbor survivors. 

That was a true celebration of the freedoms of America.

I played golf for the first time in AGES today. I wanted to get in a practice round before I take on of my fellow staff members out next weekend. I didn't want to totally embarass myself.

I was fairly pleased with the way I played tee to green, considering how long it's been since I played. Around the greens however, was another story entirely. My short game used to be a strength, tonight it was a disaster. Putting has always been problematic for me, and tonight was no different. 

I shot a 57 through 8 holes. (+27, for those of you who care) Couldn't squeeze in the ninth due to darkness, but I figure I would have shot about a 65, which would be approximately 125ish, if I'd played 18. If I can shoot that next weekend, I'll be pleased enough. I could shave about 10 strokes off that, if I could get the short game under control. 

I found more balls than I lost, which helps take the sting out of it. All in all, I had a blast. It was great to be outdoors again.
