"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend.  Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.  In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose somewhere in the United States.  The wind was not the beginning.  There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of time.

But it was an ending."

I'm more upset about this than I imagined I would be, since I didn't even read the 11th book when it came out. I guess I always thought I'd get back to them someday, but's just so sad.

I realize that several of you on my f-list are celebrating right now, but let's not forget that Jerry Falwell also had family who loved him and are in mourning right now.

I know he was offensive, and wrong more than 50% of the time, but he was a human too. Let's not lose sight of that.

Charles Seifert, former Salem High School drama and English teacher, passed away this morning after a year long battle with lung cancer, a result of a life long addiction to cigarettes.

He leaves behind a family, as well as generations of students who are not suprised that he went this way, but feel a deep sense of waste at the years he could have had, if he hadn't been smoking behind dumpsters during class breaks.

He will be missed.

My mother called this evening. One of my high school teachers, Mr. Rhodes, had a massive heart attack and passed away this morning. I'm a little blown away, given that he wasn't much older than my 'rents, and while I never liked his teaching style, he was, as they say, "a good egg". He coached my cousins in spring track and cross country. And he was good friends with Mr. Adams, one of my favorite teachers. I can't begin to imagine how this is going to bring the school to a total standstill. Going to be a rough couple of days. And his family, God...I graduated from HS ahead of both his kids.

Rest in peace, Mr. Rhodes.
